FRANCISCO TIMIAS

Certified Amazon Rainforest Guide of Ecuador

I'm Francisco, a member of the Shiwiam tribe of Juyuintza.  Born and raised in the middle of the jungle, I am here to help you understand the culture and traditions of my community, and our fundamental relationship with and dependence on the rainforest.

Visiting Juyuintza is a fundamentally unique possibility to meet and interact with the people who know the rainforest best, and who still live a traditional lifestyle in harmony with nature.  At the same time I will teach you about the enormous variety of plants and animals that make up this ecosystem, many of them completely unique to this area.

Immerse yourself in the culture and environment of the rainforest with a certified Rainforest Guide.  I'm Francisco Timias and I'm here to lead you on the journey of a lifetime.

THE SHIWIARS

The Shiwiars are an indigenous Ecuadorian tribe.  Their territory is located in the north east of the Pastaza province, municipality of Río Tigre, on the banks of the Conambo river.  Spanish is taught in school, but the primary language spoken in Juyuintza is still Shiwiar Chicham.
The Shiwiars have a wealth of knowledge about the plants and animals of this region because they have lived in harmony with nature in this region for generations. Even a few minutes talking to the children here can teach you more about the rainforest than you imagined.

A one-of-a-kind place

JUYUINTZA

Juyuintza is an indigenous community located in the heart of some of the most precious primary rainforest in Ecuador.

Located on the banks of the Conambo river in the Pastaza province, when you wake up in Juyuintza you will hear the calls of the birds and monkeys, and look up at the trees.  This is the essence of biodiversity - you have to experience it to understand the wealth and complexity of life in this ecosystem.  And once you experience it, you will truly begin to understand how invaluable the rainforest is for all of us, and how important it is to preserve it for future generations.
